Here's why Polytechnic students make better Engineers


Engineering is defined as a combination of science and art of applying skills of physics, mathematics, and technology for the betterment of mankind. Regarded as a noble profession, engineers are respected and valued all around the globe as they connect the society with science. Engineering is not only about learning the different principles, laws, and formulae but the ability to apply the factual knowledge for simpler day to day lives of humans.

An engineer must be well endowed with a trained technical mind and knowledge to gain value and demand. Technical skills and knowledge is of utmost importance and in today’s age not underestimated in the least. If you are an engineer with above par knowledge and a set of technical skills, there is no doubt you will be held in high regard.


According to the present scenario, the stream of engineering is a hot favourite. There are two different ways to graduate in engineering. One is to pursue engineering after the higher secondary exams, i.e. 12th board exams.

Another way is to opt for a diploma in the preferred branch of engineering. Diploma courses are offered by polytechnic colleges in India. In this diploma course, students get three years of education in the branch of engineering they prefer. This is then followed by three years graduation course of engineering.


In the higher secondary education, students receive two years of science education, viz. physics, chemistry, and mathematics after which they are admitted into the engineering colleges where they receive four years of engineering education. In the case of polytechnics, during the course of all 6 years of diploma and engineering, students obtain theoretical knowledge as well as core technical knowledge and hands-on experience.

The subjects polytechnic students are taught are almost similar to the subjects included in the engineering curriculum but simpler. This helps in building a strong foundation of the learning process. Also, the education received by the students during their higher secondary is not very application oriented whereas, polytechnic students follow a curriculum which is application based.

It is safe to say that polytechnic students make better engineers as they obtain more practical knowledge and experience. When they set foot in the industry, complete with a technically sound mind and brain, they are priority candidates for core technical industries. Why? Because with a trained technical mind comes an ability to work more efficiently to solve problems and provide solutions at a faster speed and thus deliver better results.
